Rick Warren’s successor apologises for Mark Driscoll interview

The pastor appointed to succeed Saddleback founder Rick Warren has apologised for interviewing Mark Driscoll.

Andy Wooden stated on Twitter that it was a “mistake and error” to interview Driscoll on the Echo Management Convention, which was hosted in Might 2021 by the church he was pastoring on the time.

Driscoll used to guide one of the crucial influential megachurches within the US, Mars Hill, however he resigned in 2014 following allegations of non secular abuse and plagiarism. He then went on to arrange the The Trinity Church in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Wooden stated his interview with Driscoll on the Echo Management Convention was about serving to pastors “study from his errors”. 

He then apologised for hurting folks along with his choice to function Driscoll on the convention.

“Previously I interviewed Mark Driscoll to assist pastors study from his errors,” he said.

“Since then extra controversy and ache has come out. My alternative harm and confused many individuals.

“I remorse the ache, confusion & distraction this brought about. I humbly apologize for my mistake and error.”

Wooden is coming to Saddleback after serving as lead pastor at Echo Church in San Jose, California. He’ll begin preaching at Saddleback on 12 September after Warren retires.
