In New England, within the winter,
there are two sorts of individuals:
   those that worry the chilly
   and those that do not…

And as you realize, Lord,
I am within the second group:
I dwell in a heat dwelling.
I sleep in a heat mattress.
   I eat heat meals.
   I’ve heat garments
(in numerous weights, colours and kinds).
   I’ve sweaters, knit hats, gaiters,

      gloves, scarves and earmuffs.
A distant starter warms my automobile
earlier than I go away the home.
I pray in a heat church.
   I’ve household and buddies
      who love me warmly…

I do not worry the chilly, Lord
    – reality is, I barely understand it!
I’d shudder and shiver
    when the mercury drops
however I am wrapped in wool,
    thermally insulated,
    swaddled in layers of heat
shielding me from frost and freezing…

And this morning, Lord,
I am praying for the oldsters within the first group…

Lest I take as a right
the heat I do know so nicely
transfer me this winter, this week, Lord,
to achieve out to those that assist the individuals
in peril of freezing to demise…

Heat my coronary heart to be beneficiant, Lord,
    offering shelter for the homeless
and wooly heat for individuals who shiver
within the chilly, alone, all evening…

Educate us to maintain one another heat, Lord,
sharing the warmth of your coronary heart,
      burning with love for us
in New England, within the winter,
and all of the 12 months round…

Amen.
