Pause for Prayer: FRIDAY 12/9

They look ahead to Christ
who’re delicate, keen, apprehensive in thoughts,
who’re awake, alive, quick-sighted, zealous in honoring him,
who search for him in all that occurs
and who wouldn’t be stunned,
who wouldn’t be over-agitated or overwhelmed,
in the event that they discovered that he was coming without delay…
This then is to look at:
to be indifferent from what’s current
and to reside in what’s unseen;
to reside within the considered Christ as he got here as soon as,
and as he’ll come once more;
to need his second coming,
from our affectionate and grateful remembrance
of his first.
– St. John Henry Newman
Lord,
rescue me from boredom, tedium and inertia,
from anxiousness, sorrow and worry;
relieve me of distraction, doubt and confusion,
of disappointment, remorse and indifference
and wake me Lord, rouse and hearten me
to attend for you, look ahead to you, search for you,
to anticipate your coming and count on your arrival…
You’ve got come into my world already, Lord,
and into my life you will come once more
– and repeatedly and once more,
right this moment, tonight and tomorrow…
After which subsequent week, subsequent month, subsequent 12 months
and once more on the final if you name me residence
when the ready’s finished and the watch is over
and once more you come to convey me residence…
After which subsequent week, subsequent month, subsequent 12 months
and once more on the final when the ready’s finished,
when the watch is over and also you name me residence
to the peace that waits for many who watch…
Amen.
