Pause for Prayer: FRIDAY 10/28

I can not imagine I am about to start my prayer this fashion
    – however right here goes:
If I had been you, Lord…
Sure, if I had been you, Lord,  I might end the work
of coloring and crowning the timber of their glory
earlier than I might permit even one single leaf
to depart its department, to flitter and float
and at last fall to the bottom and relaxation,
a carpet, crisp and browned by time,
    awaiting a blanket of snow…
However that is not your method, Lord…

The timber are nonetheless turning, some branches but inexperienced,
as you set the ending touches
        on autumn’s pleasant show
and even now, as I soak up her magnificence,
my eye catches sight of the falling leaves
and my surprise is tempered with loss…

And that is your method, Lord…

Loss of life follows life and life follows demise
within the passing of time in creation,
season to season, 12 months to 12 months
by demise on this world to life within the subsequent…

So, I am like a tree you are still engaged on Lord,
    placing your ending touches
on the individual you referred to as me to be
as I fumble and falter and slip from the heights
to the earth from which I used to be made…

If I had been you?
Properly, I am not you, Lord
    and your method is yours,
and your method’s much better than mine…

So I pray this morning, be affected person with me
as you end the work you started
in my coronary heart, in my soul, in my phrases and my deeds,
’til I fall, like a leaf, on an autumn day,
fall into your arms, in your time, in your method,
without end to dwell in your peace…
