Friday of Memorial Day Weekend

Lord,

your folks have many alternative concepts, views and opinions

in regards to the navy, armaments, warfare and peace:

some are hawks, able to wage warfare in your title

others  are pacifists, doves,

– all to the identical title loyal…

However this weekend, Lord, we put labels away

to pause and keep in mind in prayer

greater than 1,300,000 ladies and men,

who gave their lives for freedom’s sake

paid for at so expensive a worth…

Whereas a few of these are household, Lord,

most had been -and are- unknown to us,

anonymous strangers, certain as kin

by a typical homeland, a shared historical past

and the earnest hope that generations but to come back

will know the liberty and the peace

for which they gave their lives…

No matter I consider armies and wars

I need to give thanks this weekend, Lord,

for many who gave, gave all they’d

to defend, defend and save

the land, the house, the life

that is mine immediately…

Defend us, Lord, whereas we’re awake,

and watch over us as we sleep

– particularly those that preserve vigil for our security –

that awake we would preserve watch with you

and asleep, relaxation in your peace…

Amen.

(Tonight’s music is instrumental, John Williams’ Hymn to the Fallen, from the soundtrack of Saving Personal Ryan.  This video presentation presents photos and images of a few of “the fallen” who gave their lives for us by way of the course of American historical past.  The music and the photographs make for a soul stirring time of prayer and reflection…)
