I used to be questioning when leaves, eventually,
may grace the barren branches
arched above my every day path
alongside Cochituate Highway…
And, voila! They’re right here!
They’re all over the place!
Overnighted by your hand,
your reward of shade arrived
in shades of inexperienced too many
and too stunning
for me to rely or identify
and now I ponder:
how did you try this?
or how did I miss your cautious leaf-by-leaf artistry,
foliating each department and twig
with love beautiful and divine?
Maybe…
maybe I used to be distracted
if you dazzled and seduced me
blooming on my every day path
alongside Cochituate Highway…
And if that is the case, Lord,
– do not cease now!
Sneak up on me, shock me, Lord!
From out of nowhere, knock me off my ft
with what you have accomplished behind the scenes:
with secret presents, astonish me
with grace divine and love past all telling…
Shield me, Lord, whereas I am awake
and watch over me whereas I sleep
that awake, I’d hold watch with you
and asleep relaxation in your peace…
