A Harmony Pastor Feedback: NIGHT PRAYER: Saturday 10/29

Quick and livid, the leaves are falling,

laying a golden earth-toned carpet

from my backdoor to the church…

I can not merely stroll throughout it, Lord:

some muscle reminiscence, deep inside me,

units my gait to shuffling as I scuffle by

the crispness of leaves beneath my step…

Simply because it was after I was younger, a toddler

on my means faculty or out in my yard,

in search of a pile of leaves, raked, neat and tidy

inviting me to leap, to dive and softly land

with glee and and pure delight  on a pillow

left by autumn, a season’s parting reward…

And I like the sound, Lord:

the satisfying crack and crunch of fallen leaves

like a gentle shoe danced on sand,

    the whispering, shushing rhythm

    of your presence throughout…

I am too previous now for diving

into gathered piles of leaves

however younger sufficient to shuffle, Lord,

and softly dance my means

down autumn’s yard carpet

from my backdoor to the church…

Shield me, Lord, whereas I am awake

and watch over me whereas I sleep

that awake, I’d hold watch with you

and asleep, relaxation in your peace…

Amen.

Tonight, only a stroll by fallen leaves…
