my fears, actual and imagined;
my anxious coronary heart, troubled by the previous
and by all that is but to return;
the waves of grief that ebb, movement
and crash upon my soul;
the anger I disguise as disappointment;
the loneliness of helplessness,
the helplessness of loneliness…
The place you might be in all my troubles?
And a tearful confidence
You are with me by way of all of them…
Calm me, Lord,
as you calm the storm;
nonetheless me, Lord,
maintain me from hurt;
let all of the tumult inside me stop
and maintain me, Lord, in your peace…
Defend me, Lord, whereas I am awake
and watch over me whereas I sleep
that awake, I would maintain watch with you
