All we hope and pine for, Lord

appears, generally, far-off:

past our attain, past our grasp,

    past the moon and stars…

However even in our longing

we belief what’s but to come back:

the corporate of these we have misplaced,

the imaginative and prescient of your face…

Piercing evening and darkness,

your mild shines down upon us:

you information us by way of the shadows

’til we discover the sunshine of day…

We starvation in your presence,

and the peace that is yours to offer:

because the sparrow finds her residence, Lord,

assist us discover the way in which to you…

Past the solar and moon and stars,

but sheltered in our hearts:

you are the reward of peace we hope for

and the peace that provides us hope…

Defend us, Lord, whereas we’re awake,

maintain vigil whereas we sleep

that awake, we would maintain watch with you

and asleep, relaxation in your peace…

Past the moon and stars, as
deep as evening,
So nice our starvation, Lord, to see your mild.
The sparrow finds her residence beneath your wing,
So might we come to relaxation the place angels sing.

1) Our eyes have longed to see your loving face,
To stay inside your courts for all our days.

2) Your roads have led us, Lord, ‘cross desert sand.
We place our hopes and desires inside your hand.

3) Upon our darkness, Lord, a light-weight has shone.
You got here to dwell with us in flesh and bone.

4) With shining stars at evening, and cloud by day,
you introduced us right here to see your love’s show.

5) When life’s nice journey ends, and day is completed,
Then might our eyes behold your Holy One.
