5 monks amongst Christians kidnapped in Cameroon

(CP) Gunmen kidnapped 5 monks, a nun and two churchgoers after setting a Catholic church on fireplace in western Cameroon. The area has been the scene of a bloody battle between anglophone separatists and the nation’s authorities for a number of years.

Those that have been kidnapped from St. Mary’s Church within the city of Nchang remained lacking Tuesday, AFP quoted the bishops of the ecclesiastical province of Bamenda as saying as they expressed their “shock and utter horror.”

Archbishop Andrew Nkea mentioned the abductors had given “no concrete motive” for final Friday’s assault.

The bishops mentioned they “strongly condemn all these assaults towards the church and her ministers,” and appealed “to those that have taken the monks, the nun, and the Christians in Nchang to launch them with out additional delay,” Catholic Information Company reported.

“We insist on this as a result of this act has now crossed the crimson line and we should say that ‘sufficient is sufficient,'” they added. “A wave of persecutions towards the hierarchy of the church is now the brand new recreation of the ‘battle,’ and all types of menace messages are despatched out towards missionaries who’ve surrendered their lives to work for the folks.”

Cameroon’s safety forces have been battling insurgent teams which might be searching for independence for the nation’s northwestern and southwestern components, also referred to as the Anglophone area, to create a brand new nation, Ambazonia. French is spoken in different components of the nation.

About two-thirds of Cameroon’s inhabitants is Christian and Muslim represent about 30%.

Of their assertion, the bishops mentioned attackers had more and more focused the Catholic Church together with Presbyterian and Baptist church buildings.

Fonki Samuel Forba, moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon, mentioned in an announcement on the time, based on Cameroon-Info.Net, which pointed to the function of protection and safety forces.
