Southern Baptist Conference grants entry to confidential paperwork in intercourse abuse probe

The Southern Baptist Conference has voted to raise the lid on confidential paperwork in an investigation into its dealing with of sexual abuse allegations over the past twenty years.

The denomination’s Govt Committee voted 44 to 31 to waive attorney-client privilege within the investigation being overseen by Guidepost Options.

Tuesday’s vote implies that investigators can overview non-public communications between SBC workers, members and attorneys.

The plan was permitted regardless of opposition from some who warned it may nullify the denomination’s insurance coverage or compromise its “non secular fiduciary obligation.”
